I use the phrases “There are no Bright Line Eating police” and “Do what gives you peace” frequently. What do I mean by them, and do they apply equally to weight loss and maintenance? In this vlog, I explore these questions, and more.

Weekly Vlog: Bright Lines as Guidelines for Weight Loss
Переглядів 7 тис.19 годин тому
I recently received an email from a woman named Peggy Sue Parker. She said she’d been using three of the four Bright Lines: no sugar, no flour, and only three meals a day. She said, “I have not weighed my food, because I have never been one to overeat.” Using those three Bright Lines, though, she has been able to lose weight successfully. She wondered if some people could manage their weight us...
Weekly Vlog: The Journey Toward One Pull-Up

Today I want to talk about my journey to be able to do one pull-up. This has been on my bucket list for a long time. It reminds me in some ways of the journey to lose and keep off excess weight. Here are five similarities I’ve noticed. First, some context: When I was young, every year we had to do fitness tests-including one to hold yourself with your chin above a pull-up bar for as many second...

Weekly Vlog: Sometimes Addictive Eating Works

Today’s topic was suggested by a conversation I had with a Bright Lifer. She said she had recently gone back to sugar and flour … and it kind of worked. She didn’t intend to keep it up but was surprised that she seemed okay. It reminded me of a time in Australia when I was deep in the throes of late-stage food addiction. I’d stop eating sugar and flour and could only last a few days. I remember...

A Bright Lifer named Katharine sent us an observation: She was telling her Mastermind group how her Bright Lines have gotten wobbly now that she’s in Maintenance. I'm loving this series - exactly what I need to hear since I was (re-)diagnosed with gastritis and GERD. My doctor and nutritionist both recommended 5 small meals a day, which felt like grazing to me. I went into a food-obsession spiral (again); two meals a day had been my preference. But when I broke up the plan into 5 small meals, it worked. I ate this way for nine months until my stomach settled down and adjusted to a new regimen of medications. I now eat 4 small meals, still on plan, sometimes 3. Among other things, I discovered that sugar and flour exacerbate my symptoms, as well as other foods typically known to cause GERD flares. The structure and simplicity of the plan helped me parse out the specific foods that cause flares for me. My condition is chronic (inherited) and manageable. And, I will be a Bright Lifer forever because it keeps teaching and supporting me. Thank you, Team BLE, for bringing me peace around food!

Oh my goodness this blog post is my fav of all time. In 2018 I joined BL and stayed on it one year eating perfectly to the letter. I had lost 40 pounds by then. But I began really resenting having to write my meals down each night. I ate the same pattern each day, keeping food on hand that was basically the same for my meals over and over. Soon I became so upset over needing to do that, it really played head games and I began to hate “someone telling me what to do”. I ended up leaving completely for 5 years. But BLE was the only way I could stay away from my addiction and so here I am again. Susan, I have an enlarged understanding today listening to your vlog. I am ecstatic that I can make this my own without feeling guilty. Thank you thank you thank you.,

    • @Brightlineeating
      @Brightlineeating 11 годин тому

Great question! It is the same Boot Camp 2.0 course content and format with all the same benefits and features. What is happening in June is a "launch event." Approximately three times a year we host a Boot Camp launch event with educational videos and live online interactive events. This helps us to get the word out about Boot Camp and reach folks in a different way. So the only difference is that folks who join in June will likely be joining at the same time as a large cohort of people who all start around the same time. Some people enjoy this collective experience, while other people value the option to start when the time is right for them. Regardless of when you start Boot Camp, you'll be added into the same private online support community which is filled with other Boot Campers and Bright Lifers (folks who have already completed the Boot Camp and stayed on in our membership). We hope this helps! 🧡

I am Peggy Sue Parker. I would like to thank you, Susan for your Vlog. I was surprised to hear my name and the words I had written to you and your staff. I thought maybe I would not get a response back. I believe many people like me need the freedom to do our lines to fit our individual needs. I want to tell you and everyone a little about me. In February this year, a friend, Beth Clarke, told me about Bright Line Eating. I knew she was doing something to lose weight, she had a glow, and seemed very happy. Beth gave me a copy of Bright Line Eating. I started reading it, was so excited! I read it twice during the month of February. I could not stop thinking about it. I started making changes. I decided I would start March 1. I would make my bed first thing, pray, read, write in my journal and prepare my breakfast, and lunch. I would go straight home to finish preparing supper. After supper, I go to the grocery store. It was the perfect time. I was not hungry; I could read labels. Put a list on my refrigerator of the meals I could prepare. Sometimes it's hard to think what to cook. (decision fatigue). I eat three meals daily. That's not been an easy thing for me. I often missed meals but understanding the science behind it helped. I have stay focus. I score a very different score than my friend, Beth. Beth scores a 10plus while I score a 4. Some of our needs seemed different to both of us. We agreed that it's been difficult for both of us. But the journey worth it. I know I cannot eat anything with sugar. No sugar, no honey, no artificial sugar nothing sweet. One bite, and I would be like a drug addict! I refuse to eat anything that would destroy my peace of mind. I understand it's my life. I have loss 20pds weight, since March 1.

Thank you, Susan!! I am so happy to hear this! BLE helped me lose 30 lbs. and changed my thinking about food forever. I lost those pounds in 2020 by following the first two lines strictly and the second two loosely. It was easy to cut out flour and sugar by using curbside pickup during the worst of the pandemic, and it helped my digestion a lot. By selecting only on-plan foods, I was meal planning for the week without writing it down. Since I don't like to weigh my food, but have never gone for seconds or large portions (my mother taught me well), I was doing the one-plate method. But, I thought I was off plan and felt like failure, especially when I reached a set point 20 pounds above my goal, stuck just inside onederland for three years. I lurked in the chat groups but rarely participated. The big wins for me are: I didn't gain the weight back; I continue to slowly lose inches; the structure of the program has helped me figure out some food sensitivities. The emphasis on SOLUTIONS resonates with me. Where and how can we "alternative BLEers" share and learn?

Oh my, what a wonderful VLOG for me at this time. I joined originally in 2017 and was focused. Even then however, I did not write down all my food in advance. Was given permission early on by someone in our FB House Group...that allowed me to feel true to myself and not pressured. After 5 years focused and clean, I drifted and found myself eating NMF... I'm not entirely free of that tendency AND, had joined RBRZ, signed up for the UK Conference etc. Still struggling with all the structure. This VLOG has re-inspired me to take advantage of the wonderful support and wisdom in BL Solutions! I respect the core 4 lines including weighing and measuring. My guilty (in the past) deviation was sometimes splitting a meal, having my fruit or salad separately. Which never caused me angst. So many thanks, SPT for this message. Which allows me to return more whole hearted.

Awesome! Thank you for this video! I lost 63 pounds and am in my bright body doing a lot of the Bright Line parameters, but only “perfectly” with 2 out 4! I measure everything, but where I go over the lines is that I put 1 teaspoon of sugar (finally stopped artificial sweeteners after a lifetime using them) per cup (250ml) in my tea between meals multiple times a day between meals, (I drink hot tea in a large mug 6 times per day on average, planned ahead and recorded diligently). This is my only added sugar, absolutely no flour. It’s just that I am an avid tea drinker in a coffee world. To thine own self be true indeed!

I am only successful when I follow the 4 Bright Lines. But I am a 10++. When I fall in the ditch, and I do, I have weighed, measured, written it down, committed it, ate just that and then went back into the kitchen and ate everything wrong.... In addition to my planned food. But I know this works. And it does most of the time.

I am so happy to hear this. I, too, have felt like I don't really belong because I don't write down my food ahead of time, I eat what Susan would call "sexy" compliant food, and I have no habit stacks. I see so many comments in the group that say, "There are no BLE police", BUT then go on to imply that what the person is doing is wrong. I've been DOING BLE for almost 3 years and have been in maintenance for over 2, yet I have often been afraid to mention my anomalies in the group and don't volunteer to be a buddy. I consider myself highly successful in BLE, but have felt like the ugly stepchild. It feels good to be validated. To thine own self be true.

I think there's something to be said for "coming all the way in and sitting all the way down" at least at first and then very deliberately trialing adjustments with feedback like a scale(weighing yoursel) to keep you honest about results in order to differentiate between guidelines that might not be necessary for you individually but that are essential for others.

AT LONG LAST! I lost weight just sticking to the no sugar no flour, 3 meals a day. Now that I have immersed myself into the bright line eating community, I sometimes feel guilty that I don't write it all down or that I don't always weigh my food. BLE creates feelings of guilt in me, and yet-- when I did it on my own without the community and with only 2 of the Bright lines, I lost weight. During the 2016 boot camp, I lost 25 extra pounds by strictly sticking to the four bright lines. After the boot camp, I decided to stick to only two bright lines: sugar and no flour. I've kept my excess weight off. I eat healthy and feel good.

I’m a “10” but I keep trying to write my own food plan and I convince myself that I can have just one bite, one serving, … 1 is too many and 50 isn’t enough. IYKYK

Soooo good to hear this. I do weight my meats/proteins and fruit. Risks to overeat these are significant. Although I like my veggies, I have trouble eating the full 20 oz of these so I am less likely to use the scale. Thank you, thank you!

Personally, this is WHY I weigh my salads. I want to be sure I eat all I need to eat. Also, the chicken I add for the same reason.

The scale is awesome for getting enough of great veggies and fruit, protein, etc as well as the peace it gives me so I don't go overboard. There is nothing better. Thank you BLE. ❤

Great vlog, Susan, thank you ! And yes, there is conformity pressure within some non official BLE type groups ! Much appreciated as I’m a bit of another Peggy .

I'm glad to see this, wonderful timing, cause I'm coming to London to meet some of you next week, and I'm just so excited and I didn't even consider I might not be welcome! But I too have been saved by the bright lines as guideline.... absolutely saved me from food misery and poor health for life. Ever grateful for the welcoming tone the community of BLE embodies ❤
